The control and administration of the American Bar Association (ABA) is vested in the House of Delegates, the policy-making body of the ABA. NAAG annually sends one attorney general to the ABA Annual and Midyear Meetings to represent the attorneys general and designates an alternate if the primary appointee is unable to attend. Attorney general staff are eligible for discounted ABA membership through NAAG.
Founded in 1933, the Council of State Governments (CSG) is a region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy. NAAG annually appoints two attorneys general to serve on CSG’s Executive Committee and attend CSG’s national annual conference.
Established at the United Nations offices in Vienna in June 1995, the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) is the only worldwide organization of prosecutors and has members from over 177 different countries. NAAG is an institutional member of the IAP and has a strong history of partnering with the IAP on programming and exchanges and sends several attorneys general annually to the IAP’s Annual Conference as representatives of the attorneys general.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grassroots fundraiser for the Special Olympics.
As of November 2018, a NAAG appointee holds a seat as a permanent voting member of the LETR International Executive Council. NAAG annually sends an attorney general appointee to represent NAAG at the LETR International Conference.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent child victimization. NCMEC works with families, victims, private industry, law enforcement, and the public to assist with preventing child abductions, recovering missing children, and providing services to deter and combat child sexual exploitation.
Annually, NAAG appoints an attorney general to serve on NCMEC’s Law Enforcement Advisory Council.
Initially created and funded by the Attorneys General through the tobacco Master Settlement Agreement (MSA), Truth Initiative is America’s largest nonprofit public health organization dedicated to making tobacco use a thing of the past. As required in the MSA, NAAG appoints two attorneys general to serve on Truth Initiative’s Board of Directors for three-year terms.
